Galera, cansei dessa vida de petróleo... A maior parte das coisas que eu coloquei aqui mostra a parte boa desta vida, mas representa uma pequena parte do todo, em que a maioria é sugação e stress. Então decidi que já tive o suficiente desta experiência de vida, e agora pretendo buscar mais qualidade de vida. Afinal, dinheiro não é tudo, e com o que juntei lá já dá pra começar bem uma vida nova.

Por já estar de saco cheio, fiquei com preguiça de continuar atualizando este blog até o final da minha viagem pra China. E também não vou colocar nada sobre as férias (finalmente consegui tirar férias!), em que fiz um mochilão pela Europa. Guys, I´m tired of this life in the oil industry... Most of the things I've been posting here shows the good part of this way of life, but it represents just a tiny part of the whole cake, which if basically full of stress and things that were pissing me off. So I decided that I had enough of this experience, and now I intend to look for a better life quality. After all, it's not all about money, and the amount I've gathered is enough to had a new good start.

Because I was already sick of this shit, I was lazy to keep updating this blog to the end of my trip to China. And I also won't post anything about my vacations (yeah, finally I got some vacations!), when I was backpacking around Europe. China day 6

Hoje foi o último dia de curso, então tivemos um pouco mais de tempo livre. Aproveitamos para ir a um mercado de eletrônicos (tipo uma Galeria Pajé) pra comprar umas bugigangas. Outra doideira!!! Os vendedores ficavam disputando a gente no tapa, quase que implorando pra ir com eles até as lojas. O térreo era uma espécie de mostruário, somente para atrair os clientes. Assim os vendedores ficavam tentando atrair as pessoas, e as levavam pras lojas nos andares de cima. Uma confusão muito grande!

Mais tarde fomos passear na famosa Praça Tian'an'men. No caminho vimos também umas espécie de ginásio de esportes aquáticos, muito gigante! Mais adiante vimos a entrada da Cidade Proibida. Entramos num parque ao lado dela, chamado "Loja de Tulipas". Pelo nome, já dá pra saber o que tinha lá... muitas tulipas! Na volta, vimos o arriamento da bandeira chinesa no centro da praça. Tudo bem formal, com vários soldados em sentido por todo lado e marcha vindo da Cidade Proibida até a bandeira. Uma coisa engraçada foi que, como estava cheio de gente pra assistir o arriamento da bandeira, o Ilya (russo) colocou a Sameera (árabe) nos ombros para que ela tirasse fotos, e os chineses acharam aquilo o máximo!!! Um monte de gente ficou tirando várias fotos deles... eheheh...

Pra fechar o dia, pegamos uma balada. Fomos até uma boate chamada "GT Banana Club". Bem normal, com pista de dança e música eletrônica. O que me chamou atenção é que de repente, no meio da pista de dança, apareceu um palquinho, e então subiu um dançarino com umas roupas muito loucas pra dançar e agitar a galera. Isso aconteceu umas três vezes, e eu achei uma idéia muito boa pra agitar a balada quando a galera tá meio que perdendo o fôlego.

Pra finalizar as fotos, tirei no hotel essa de uma Coca-Cola e uma Sprite chinesas. Olhaí!

Today was the last day of the training course, so we had a little more extra time. Then we went to the electronics market (an entire building full of small shops) to buy some stuff. That was another totally crazy thing!!! The sellers were literally fighting for us, almost begging us to go with them to their stores. The ground level was a kind of show room, just to attract the clients. So the sellers kept trying to attract people, and then take them to their stores on the upper floors. It was really a big mess!

Later we went to the famous Tian'an'men Square. On our way we also saw a kind of gimnasium for acquatic sport, pretty big! Further away, and we saw the entrance of the Forbidden City. Then we went to a park at its side, called "Tulip Shop". By its name, you can figure out what was there inside... lots of tulips! On our way back, we saw the procedures for the retrieval of the Chinese flag from the Red Square. Very formal, with lots of soldiers paying respect to the flag all around the square and marching from inside the Forbidden City to the flag. A funny thing was when Ilya (from Russia) put Sameera (from UAE) on his shoulders so she could take pictures (as it was full of people to watch it, we couldn't see very well), and the Chinese people loved it!!! There were lots of chinese taking pictures of them... eheheh...

To end our day, we went to a night club called "GT Banana Club". It was pretty much what we are used to, with dance floor and electronic music. But one different thing was that suddenly a small stage appeared in the middle of the dance floor, and a dancer wearing some fancy clothes hopped on top of it to dance and excite people. This happened about 3 times, and I thought it's a pretty good idea to put people on fire when everyone is getting tired during the night.

China day 5

Quase no fim do curso, depois da aula fomos a um jantar de confraternização com toda a galera. O restaurante era famoso por um prato muito típico na China, o pato assado, realmente é muito gostoso! E o método de servir era muito interessante, no centro da mesa tinha uma tampa de vidro giratória, em que a gente vai trazendo os pratos que a gente quer pra perto. E outra coisa bem legal é que cada pato tem um número de série e um certificado de qualidade, para garantir a excelência do produto!!! Depois de um belo jantar como esse, um merecido descanso, já que eu ainda não tinha me acostumado com o fuso horário, que era de 11 horas a mais em relação ao Brasil.

Almost in the end of the course, after the classes we went to a confraternization dinner with everyone from the course. The restaurant was famous for a very typical dish from China, the roasted duck, really good! And the serving method was very interesting, in the center of the table there was a kind of glass plate, that we could spin around and get all the dishes close to us. Another cool thing is that each duck has a serial number and a certificate of quality, to ensure the product goodness!!! After such grat dinner, I had to go for a rest, as I was still not used to the time difference, which was plus 11 hours from Brazil.

China day 4

Hoje depois do curso a gente decidiu ir às compras. Fomos numa espécie de shopping center chamado "Silk Street". A coisa é simplesmente maluca, os vendedores são doidos pra vender! Usam da mais agressiva técnica de vendas, incluindo arrastar a gente puxando pelos braços, literalmente! Várias vezes alguns vendedores me disputavam me puxando pelos braços!!! Além disso, as negociações são bem severas. Eles sempre iniciam com um preço nas alturas, e conforme a gente vai barganhando, podemos chegar a 5% do valor inicial!!! Fazer compras na China realmente é uma aventura!

Depois das compras, fomos jantar num outro restaurante típico, com vários pratos diferentes! Mas o que eu mais gostei foi o yakimeshi, um arroz com ovos, ervilhas, pedacinhos de presunto e outros. O arroz fica muito saboroso assim! Por fim, demos um passeio pelas avenidas daquela região, passando por alguns outros shoppings, pelo World Trade Center de Beijing, vários hotéis, alguns museus e uma boate. Mas a boate ficou pra outro dia...

Today after the classes we decided to go for shopping. We went to a kind of shopping mall, called "Silk Street". That was just insane, the sellers are crazy to sell you something. It's the most aggressive selling technique that I've ever seen, including dragging us to the stores by pulling our arms, literally! For several times some sellers were fighting for me by pulling my arms. Besides that, the negotiation is very tough. They aways start with a very high price, and as we bargain, we can get to 5% of the original price!!! Shopping in China is quite an adventure!

After shopping, we went to a typical restaurant for dinner, with lots of different dishes! The one I liked the most was yakimeshi, the rice with eggs, peas, pieces of ham and other things. The rice gets really tasty like this! In the end, we took a walk around the avenues from that district, passing by some other malls, by the Beijing's World Trace Center, lots of hotels, some museums and a night club. But this one is for later...

China day 3

Um dia sem grandes novidades, tudo normal durante o curso. O legal ficou por conta do jantar, pois fomos a um "hot pot", um tipo de restaurante muito típico da China. A idéia é que cada um tem uma espécie de panela (ao invés de uma pra cada, pode ser uma panela grande pra todo mundo também). Daí a gente pede os ingredientes crus, e vai cozinhando na mesa, de acordo com o próprio gosto. Dá pra pedir várias coisas, como carnes, vegetais, macarrão, frutos do mar... Mas a gente só conseguiu essa proeza porque dessa vez um dos nossos amigos do curso falava chinês, o que facilitou em muito a nossa comunicação! Ehehhe...

A day with no big news, everything was normal during the training course. The cool thing was the dinner, because we went to a "hot pot", a very typical kind of restaurant from China. The idea is that everyone has a kind of pan (instead of one pan for each person, can be a big one for everyone). Then we order the raw ingredients, and cook at the table, according to the way we like it. It's possible to order lots of different things, like meat, vegetables, noodles, sea food... But we were able to do it this time because one of our friends from the course could speak chinese, what made things much easier for our communication! Ehehehe...

China day 2

Hoje foi o primeiro dia de curso. A empresa tem um centro de desenvolvimento de software bem grande (por volta de 300 desenvolvedores), e tem sua sede no parque tecnológico da universidade de Tsinghua, juntamente com grandes como Microsoft, Google e Sun. Foi tudo muito interessante, principalmente conhecer e conversar com desenvolvedores de outros países.

Depois do curso, fomos dar uma passeada pela cidade, indo para Sunlitun, uma rua famosa por ter vários bares e clubes. A segunda aventura aqui foi pegar o metrô, já que é tudo em chinês. Apesar de os nomes das estações estarem escritos também no nosso alfabeto, são muito fáceis de confundir! Outra coisa que percebemos bem durante a nossa jornada foi a poluição. A gente sente fortes ardências no nariz, olhos e garganta, e tem alguns lugares por onde a gente passa que simplesmente não dá pra respirar de tanta fumaça e poeira!

Saindo do metrô, sentimos outro dos grandes problemas de Pequim, o trânsito (para ter uma idéia, a cidade só possui estacionamentos para metade dos carros existentes). Aqui os semáforos servem somente de enfeite, já que nem carros e nem pedestres respeitam, todo mundo fica disputando um lugar para andar nas ruas e calçadas. Andamos um pouco pela noite de Pequim, até chegar nos bares. A maioria deles no estilo chinês, com um palco e uma bandinha cantando músicas chinesas, e os fregueses sentadinhos bonitinhos nas mesas assistindo. Até que foi bem divertido!

Today was the first day of training. The company has a very big software development center (about 300 developers), and it's located in the Tsinghua University's technological park, together with other big companies like Microsoft, Google and Sun. Everything was very interesting, specially getting to know and talking to developer from other countries.

After the course, we went for a walk around the city, heading to Sunlitun, a famous street by its bars and clubs. The second adventure here was using the subway, since everything is in chinese. Despite the names of stations being written in our alphabet, it's very easy to get confused. Another thing that we could notice very well was the polution. We can feel it in our noses, eyes and throat, and in some places it's almost impossible to breathe due to lots of smoke and dust!

Getting out of the subway, we saw another Beijing's big problem, the traffic (to get an idea, the city has parking lots for only half of the vehicles existing here). The traffic lights are here just to decorate the streets, since nor cars neither people respect them, everyone has just to fight for a place to walk or drive in the streets. We walked a while around the night of Beijing, until we arrived the bars area. Most of them are chinese style, with a little stage and a band playing chinese songs, and the custumers sitting on the tables watching the band quietly. Actually, it was very funny!

Passeio em Paris - Paris drop-by

No caminho para a China, fiz uma escala em Paris que iria demorar 7 horas. Então eu não podia deixar de aproveitar essa oportunidade pra dar uma passeadinha pela cidade-luz! Foi bem rapidinho, nem pude ficar entrando nos lugares pra ver melhor, mas já foi o suficiente pra ter uma idéia do que me espera nas minhas férias em maio/junho.

Saí do aeroporto com o metrô, e parei na estação St. Michel/Notre Dame, e dei uma espiadinha na Catedral de Notre Dame. Ela é bem impressionante tanto por fora quanto por dentro, com muitas estátuas, vitrais e outras coisas. Depois fui seguindo o rio Siena até chegar no Museu do Louvre. A arquitetura ao longo do rio é bastante clássica, até mesmo os prédios residenciais e comerciais têm cara de museus!

Claro que não pude entrar no Louvre, então passei na frente, pra ver as famosas pirâmides, e continuei seguindo caminho pelo seu jardim, até chegar no início da Champs-ÉLysées, marcado pela "La Concorde", uma espécie de obelisco. Aproveitei pra tentar tirar umas fotos minhas com a Torre Eiffel ao fundo, obviamente sem muito sucesso...

Continuei seguindo o rio até chegar à Torre Eiffel. Ela realmente possui toda uma majestade à sua volta, uma estrutura impressionante. Em frente à torre estava o Palais de Chaillot. Não descobri exatamente o que é este prédio, mas também é bem imponente e bonito, com uma arquitetura mais moderna, porém não fugindo ao tradicional ao longo do rio.

Depois disso, voltei seguindo pelo rio e cortei caminho para o meio da Champs-Élysées. A avenida é bastante larga, fazendo com que seja possível ver suas duas pontas, incluindo La Concorde e o Arco do Triunfo. Continuei andando até o final, chegando no Arco do Triunfo, que fica bem no meio de uma rotatória gigante, recebendo o encontro de diversas outras avenidas, como um grande portal no meio da cidade.

Por fim, dei uma passeadinha ali por perto, e já peguei o ônibus de volta para o aeroporto. Ao todo foram três horas de caminhada, com rápidas paradas para fotos (foto bônus: uma Ferrari nas ruas de Paris). Nada mau pra um roteirinho rápido por Paris, onde consegui ver alguns dos principais pontos da cidade. Isso deu água na boca pras minhas férias!!!

On my way to China, I had a flight connection in Paris, and I would have to way for 7 hours. Of course I had to take this chance to walk around the city of light! It was very quick, I couldn't go inside the places, but it was enough to give me an idea about what's coming during my vacations in May/June.

Leaving the airport, I took the subway up to the St. Michel/Notre Dame station, and took a look inside the Notre Dame Cathedral. It's very impressive from outside and inside as well, with lots of statues, stained glass windows and some other stuff. After that, I followed the Siena River up to the Louvre Museum. The architecture around the river is very classic, even the residential and commercial building look like museums!

I couldn't go inside the Louvre, so I took a look at the famous pyramids in front of it, and kept walking through its gardens, up to the beginning of the Champs-Élysées avenue, marked by "La Concorde", a kind of obelisk. That was a good spot for taking pictures, so I tried to take pictures of me with the Eiffel Tower at the background, with not much success, obviously...

Still following the river, I got to the Eiffel Tower. It really appears majestic, with an impressive structure. In front of the Tower there was the Palais de Chaillot. I couldn't figure out what is that building, but it's also very imposing and beautiful, with a more modern design, but following the traditional lines around the river.

After that, I came back following the other side of the river, and took a shortcut to the middle of the Champs-Élysées. This avenue is very wide, making it possible to see its ends, including La Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. I walked to the end, getting to the Arc de Triomphe, right in the middle of a giant rotary, where lots of avenues get together, like a big portal in the middle of the city.

In the end, I walked around there, and then took a bus back to the Airport. It was three hours walking, with quick stops for pictures (bonus picture: a Ferrari in Paris streets). Not bad for a litte tour around Paris, where I could see some of the main touristic sights of the city. This just got me even more excited about my vacations!!!

De volta - I'm back

Galera, fiquei muito tempo sem postar nada porque não tive muitas novidades, basicamente só muito trabalho. Mas em duas semanas estarei voando para a China (!!!) pra um treinamento, então espero poder colocar muitas coisas loucas e diferentes aqui!

Guys, I haven't showed up for a while, because I didn't have any great news, I just was working a lot. But in two weeks from now I will fly to China (!!!) for a training course, so I hope to post here lots of different and crazy stuff!

Treinamento no Rio - Training course in Rio de Janeiro

Depois de muito trabalho, rolou um treinamento no Rio, que serviu um pouco pra relaxar, desestressar e curtir! A gente ficou num hotel muito show na Barra, de frente pra praia, com tudo o que tinha direito!

O treinamento era sobre gerenciamento de pessoas, liderança, motivação... essas coisas de RH. Mas foi muito bom, era super dinâmico e muito interessante, a gente aprendeu um monte! E é claro que durante a semana inteira rolou baladas todo dia, pra aproveitar bem a estada no Rio, fechando a semana com um show do Chiclete com Banana! Pena que uma semana passa rapidinho...

After lots of work, we had a training course in Rio de Janeiro, what was very good to relax, relief all the stress and have some fun! We stayed in a very good hotel in Barra (one of the best districts from Rio), in front of the beach, with everything we wanted!

The training course was about people management, leadership, motivation... lots of these kind of HR things. But it was very good, very dynamic and interesting. We learned a lot! And of course we went out every day from the week, to take advantage from staying in Rio de Janeiro, finishing with a concert of "Chiclete com Banana" ("Chewing Gun and Banana", it's a very famous band in Brazil). I'd like to have a longer week than just 7 days...

Novo recorde - New record

Essa semana consegui mais um recorde de horas acordado trabalhando... 92!!!! Eu sei que é difícil de acreditar, mas realmente aconteceu. Pra não dizer que não dormi nada, eu devo ter dado umas pescadinhas de 10 minutinho durante o trabalho, mas nada que pudesse descansar meu corpo, e principalmente a minha mente... Tá ficando foda isso aqui...

Last week I got one more record about awaken hours working... 92!!! I know that's difficult to believe, but it really happened. Just not to say that I haven't slept at all, I might have nodded for 10 minutes a few times during the job, but nothing that could give some rest to my body and specially to my mind... Things here are getting pretty tough...

No news, good news....

Sem novidades, só muito trabalho e poucas folgas como sempre... Desde que eu comecei a escrever no blog, os fatos diferentes têm caído drasticamente, então decidi só postar algo realmente novo aqui (desde que eu tenha tempo, lógico...). Isso pode implicar em longos períodos sem novos posts, mas acho que o objetivo inicial deste blog foi atingido (que era de mostrar a vida na Schlumberger pra quem está do lado de fora).

No new, just lots of work and only a few days off, as usual... Since I started this blog, the crazy different things have been reducing drastically, so I decided only to post something really new here (as soon as I get enough time to do that, of course...) This can imply on long periods without any new posts, but I think that the initial objective of this blog was achieved (which was showing the Schlumberger way of life to outsiders).

Outro trabalho internacional - One more international job

Sem muitas novidades, só trabalho e mais trabalho... Mas essa semana fiz um trabalho pra um outra empresa internacional, chamada Devon. Nada muito diferente, mas é legal pegar experiência com clientes diferentes. Ahn, e outra coisa que aconteceu recentemente... Tirei o dente do ciso aqui em Macaé e só tive problemas (10 dias com dor!!!). Pra resolver a minha situação tive que ir tratar em São Paulo. Dentista aqui nunca mais!

No big news, just work and work... But last week I did a job for another international company, named Devon. Not that different, but it's good to get experience with different clients. Ahn, and another thing that happened recently... I removed my wisdom teeth here in Macaé, and got lots of trouble (10 days full of pain!!!). To solve it, I had to go to São Paulo. Denstist here never more!

De volta ao trabalho - Back to work

Voltando ao Brasil, nada de descanso, nem tive tempo de atualizar o Blog... Desde que cheguei, fiquei praticamente o tempo todo embarcado, só uns 5 ou 6 dias em terra em um mês e meio!!! E mais um recorde, 28 dias embarcado direto! Tou começando a pensar seriamente nas minhas férias... Pra lembrar de como estava bom em Las Vegas, um video de uma apresentaçãozinha em frente a um cassino lá.

Back to Brazil, no rest at all, I even didn't have enough time to update mu blog... Since I came back, I've been almost everyday offshore, I just had 5 or 6 days onshore in one month and a half!!! And one more record, 28 days offshore straight! I'm starting to think seriously about my vacations... To remember how fun it was in Vegas, a little video of a show in front of a casino there.

Final do curso - End of course

Dessa vez, o curso aqui nos EUA foi muito mais tranquilo, dá pra perceber pela foto... ehehhe... Deu tempo de sobra pra sair com a galera, descansar e se divertir. Um dia fomos numa dessas boates country, em que todo mundo fica dançando igualzinho na pista, até que foi legalzinho (mas depois de um tempo enjoa...). E claro, não podíamos deixar de comparecer no kart! Nesse dia eu tava com mais dois amigos meus do ITA, que também trabalham nessa empresa, e por coincidência estavam fazendo curso lá também, na mesma época que eu. Bons tempos...

This time, the course here in USA was much easier, you can realize that by the picture... ehehhe... We had lots of free time to go out, rest and have fun. One day we went to one country club, where everyone dances the very same steps on the dance floor, it was pretty funny (but it gets boring after a while...). And of course we had to go karting! At this day, I was with two friends from my university, that also work for this company, and by coincidence they were there attending to a training course too, at the same time as me. Good times...

Trabalho de graça - Work for free

Fui pra plataforma pra fazer um trabalho, e atrasou muito! Esperei 4 dias fazendo absolutamente nada... No quinto dia, depois de horas montando o equipamento, adiaram o trabalho, e então passamos mais horas desmontando... Um dia todinho trabalhando de graça... =(

Bom, mas agora uma notícia boa... Vou pra os EUA de novo para outro curso da empresa, dia 15 de julho! Quero ir logo, porque dizem que a segunda vez é bem mais tranquilo, praticamente férias... eheheh...

I went to a platform for a job, but it got delayed a lot! I waited for 4 days doing absolutely nothing... On the fifth day, after hours assembling the equipment, the job was postponed, so we spent some more hours disassembling the equipment... An entire day working for free... =(

Well, now a good news... I'm going to USA again, for another training course from my company, on 15th july! I'm looking forward to it, because I was told that the second course is pretty easy, almost like vacations... eheheh...

De volta a Macaé - Back to Macaé

Finalmente voltei pra Macaé! Terça-feira passada desembarquei, e meu chefe mandou voltar às pressas, mas no fim das contas não era tão urgente assim... Agora tou esperando pra voltar pra Itanhaém de novo...

Finally I came back to Macaé! I disembarked last Tuesday, and my boss asked me to come back in a hurry, but in the end it was not so urgent... Now I'm waiting to go back to Itanhaém...

Ainda em Itanhaém, mas que porra! - Still at Itanhaém, fuck!

Como sempre, deu problema no poço, e a gente teve que desembarcar pra esperar mais em Itanhaém, pra depois voltar lá. E é claro, sem previsão nenhuma... Assim fica difícil resolver a nossa vida. Mas em todo caso, tirei umas fotos lá na plataforma, pra colocar aqui...

As aways, we had problems in the well, and we had to disembark to wait in Itanhaém, to come back to the platform later. And of course, we have no idea on when are we going back to the platform... Living like this, it's hard to plan anything. Anyway, I could take some pics at the platform, to post here...

Ainda em Itanhaém - Still at Itanhaém

Desembarquei Sábado, e tive que ir pra São Paulo esperar o novo embarque em Itanhaém... Pelo menos deu pra passar a Páscoa em casa, o primeiro feriado que eu não estou embarcado desde que entrei na companhia!!! Mas cá estou de novo, em Itanhaém, pra embarcar amanhã ou quarta-feira...

I disembarked on Saturday, and had to go to São Paulo, to wait to embark again at Itanhaém. At least I could be at home during the Easter, this was the first holiday that I wasn't offhsore since I joined the company!!! But here I am again, in Itanhaém, to embark tomorrow or maybe wednesday...

De volta a Itanhaém - Back to Itanhaém

Eu achei que ia ficar um tempinho em Macaé, mas que nada... Já saiu outro trabalho na Bacia de Santos, e olha eu de novo aqui em Itanhaém... Espero que dessa vez a gente não tenha que esperar muito aqui no hotel, porque tou cheio de coisas pra resolver lá em Macaé...

I thought tha I would stay in Macaé for a while, but I was wrong... There is already another job at Santos Basin, so I'm back to Itanhaém... I hope this time we won't have to wait too much here at the hotel, because I have lots of stuff to do there in Macaé...

Correria - Hurry

Depois de muitos problemas no trabalho, finalmente consegui terminar e desembarquei na 5a feira. Daí aproveitei que tinha que buscar meu carro e passei uns dias em Piracicaba, curtindo e descansando um pouco... Taí uma foto da plataforma que eu tava, e da Dani cozinhando para mim quando eu tava lá!!! =)

After lots of problems during the job, I finally could finish and then come back onshore on Thursday. Then, as I had to go back to my hometown to get my car, I spent some days there to rest and have a little fun... So, here is a picture from the platform I was on board, and from Dani cooking for me when I was there!!! =)
