Sexto dia em Nova York - New York day six

Igrejinha no Bronx - Small church at the BronxDepois disso, voltei pro albergue para pegar minhas coisas e fui pra rodoviária, onde tomei o ônibus pra Philadelphia (detalhe: ônibus interestadual no Brasil é muito melhor!).

=====================================

Lontra - OtterMe and Jonny had scheduled a tour to Bronx today morning, but yesterday he went out for drinking with some guys, and probably he spent the whole morning passed out completely drunk at his bed... ehehhe... In the end, it was only me, but that was ok, because I joined some other guys who were taking the tour as well.

Urso polar - Polar bearWell, Bronx is know as the most dangerous part of New York city (like the slums in Rio de Janeiro), so I didn't wanted to take the risk by going by myself there, so I waited for the day when there would be a guided tour from the hostel. We took the subway and went to the Yankees Station, where the Yankees stadium is. The Yankees are the famous baseball team from New York.

Foca - SealAfter a quick look at the stadium (I was not lucky, because there were no Yankees matches while I was in New York), we went to take a walk around Bronx. Being there, I could see that it's not that dangerous as I was told, it looks like a medium class neighborhood (very different from slums in Rio de Janeiro). If this is the poorest part of New York, it's pretty easy to live here... Anyway, we walked a little more and could see the Bronx "city hall" (it kinda has its own mayor), schools, squares and also we could listen a little about Bronx history.

Pingüim - PenguinBecause I would have a short day today, after Bronx I decided to take a quick look at the Central Park Zoo. It's small, but it's kinda cool, with lots of animals. But I felt pitty for them, for being kept in small spaces, and also for the hot weather (specially for the polar bear)... Well...

Metrô - SubwayThen I came back to the hostel to get my luggage, and went to the bus station, where I could get the bus to Philadelphia (note: interstate buses in Brazil ar much better!). In the subway, I recorded some guys singing trying to get some money, what is very common in New York. By the way, I will take this chance to talk a little about New York's subway. Having lots of lines and hundreds of subway stations is really convenient, it's possible to go almost everywhere by subway. But the quality of trains and stations is much worse than the subway in São Paulo...

Quinto dia em Nova York - New York day five

=====================================

Por dentro da biblioteca pública de Nova york - Inside New York's public libraryToday was Nina's last day in New York, so she wanted to go to the Disney Store before leaving the city. The store was very nice, full of dolls, stuffed Disney characters and other kinds of Disney souvenirs. We took some pictures, and then I went with her to the bus station, and I could buy my bus ticket to Philadelphia.

Angelina Jolie and Brad PittI left the bus station, and went back to the Disney Store, to buy some gifts, and after that I kept walking on the 5th Avenue, because I wanted to go to the Madame Tussaud, that famous wax museum, with lots of celebrity statues. On my way, I saw the NBA Store, and decided to check it out. It was pretty cool inside, with everything that you can imagine about NBA, from uniforms to balls and accessories.

Eu e Robin Williams - Me and Robin WilliamsAfter that, I still was walking on the 5th Avenue, and passed in front of the Rockafeller Center building, just to take one more little picture... eheehh... And a funny thing: a little further, I found a street called "Little Brazil". It had some Brazilian restaurants, some little grocery stores with Brazilian stuff and other things like this.

Eu e Einstein - Me and EinsteinFurther, I ended right in front of the famous New York Public Library (Spider-Man's uncle was killed in front of it), and I went inside to take a quick look. It really deserve its fame... It's simply huge!!! Has a very large book collection and some other databases for queries. Besides, its architecture is very beautiful, from inside and also outside.

Eu e Shakira juntinhos! - Me and Shakira really close!I walked a little bit more on the 5th Avenue, and finally arrived the was museum, Madame Tussaud. Inside it are exhibited wax statues of lots of celebrities from all over the world, and they are very good! During lots of times I got myself looking at some statue thinking it was a real person! And the coolest thing: to be able to take some pictures together with some of the most wanted women in the world! Eheheh...

Lounge do albergue - Hostel's lounge roomWhen I finished looking around the museum, and walked a little bit more on the 5th Avenue, and then I came back to the hostel to take some rest, because I was exhausted from all those intense walking during the last days... So I'm posting here a picture from the hostel's lounge room.

Quarto dia em Nova York - New York day four

Nossos nomes na ponte do Brooklin - Our names in the Brookling Bridge==========================================

Eu e a Nina no meio da Grand Central Terminal - Me and Nina in the middle of the Grand Central TerminalToday we started our jorney going to the Lincoln Center, a kind of cultural center, with lots of theathers and exhibitions. But as we went there during the morning, there wasn't anything special, so we could just take some pictures. After that, Jonny wanted to go to the Greenwich Village, because he had heard it was cool. There were lots of bars and pubs around there, and it architecture was very similar Prédio da Chrysler - Chrysler buildingto the english one, but I think that it's a place to go at night, because there was
nothing special going on... Then we took a little break at the Washington Square, what was nearby, but also wasn't that much, just a normal little square. But an interesting thing is that people from New York usually go inside the fontains springs, specially when it's really hot weather, so there were lots of kids playing inside the fontain.

Nações Unidas - United NationsAfter that we headed to the Brooklin Bridge. On our way, we saw the Court House, and took a picture with the Big Apple Escultura na entrada do prédio das Nações Unidas - sculpture on the entrance of the United Nations building(that's how New York is called). The Brooklin Bridge is very beautiful, and it was the first suspended bridge built in New York. We can get a good view of Manhattan from there, and also of the Brooklin, of course. We crossed the entire bridge (a long walking, take a look at the video), and after walking around the Brooklin we had lunch there.

Bandeira rasgada - Ripped flagContinuing our walk, we went to the Grand Central Terminal, where most of the subway lines get together. It's huge! And it's also a kind of city central market. It's very beautiful inside, large and wide, and has that famous clock right in the middle of the station, that is aways showed in some movies.

Paz entre os países! Eu e a Nina dentro do prédio da ONU - Peace within countries! Me and Nina in the UN buildingLeaving the Grand Central Terminal, we dropped by the Chrysler building (another New York's sky-scraper), and then we went to the United Nations building. In front of the building there are flags from all the countries that are participants of the Organization, and on the way to the entrance there are some sculptures symbolizing peace, like that famous gun with a WTC de novo - WTC againknot. Inside the building there were lots of pictures of missions accomplished by the Organization, and some other relics, like a flag that was ripped in a bomb attack during a mission in Iraq. On our way, we could see the gardens, which are vey wide and beautiful.

Maquete - ModelLast, Nina wanted to go back to the Ground Zero to look for a memorial in honor of the victims from the attack to the World Trade Center. We walked a lot around there, but in the end we couldn't find it... So we took some pictures and walked though the Finantial Center around the Ground Zero, and we could see the model of the future buildings being built on the place Chuva! A gente ensopados no metrô - Rain! We were very wet at the subwayit was the WTC (the picture is not so good, but we can have an idea...). On our way back, we had a heavy rain, so we got to the subway station completely wet. Then we could just think about going back to the hostel to take a hot shower and rest... ehehhe...

Terceiro dia em Nova York - New York day hree

Eu e Nina no Museu de História Natural - Me and Nina at the Natural History MuseumHoje arrumamos mais um amigo pra rodar Nova York com a gente, o Jonny.

================================

Bandeiras no Rockafeller Center - Flags at the Rockafeller CenterToday we got one more friend to walk around New York with us, Jonny. He is from North Ireland, very funny guy, crazy for soccer. We started the day going to the Natural History Museum. It's pretty cool, with focus on different cultures through the history all over the world. It has lots of interesting things explaining habits and traditions of several civilizations, and also about space and the origin of the universe. But what really calls people's attention are the dinosaurs fossils. It's quite large on quantity and diversity! There are lots of different dinosaur species, and lots of things related to the planet's evolution.

Lugar da árvore de natal - Christmas Tree placeAfter the Natural History Museum, we went to the Columbus Center, it's like a small square with a monument in honor of Christopher Colombus for having discovered America. Actually, it's not that good, but worths some pictures. We had lunch around there, in a kind of grocery store that is a restaurant (or would it be a restaurant that is a grocery store?), inside of a commercial center. After that, we went to the Central Park to relax a little bit. I used this free time to get that power nap!

Macy'sLeaving the Central Park, we went to the Rockafeller Center, a huge commercial complex (it is a square of 3 blocks of side size). A cool thing is that it's like an underground shopping mall, and when we go up to the surface, we can see its central part, with flags of lots of different countries all around it. And right in front of it is the place where that famous Rockafeller's huge Christmas tree stays, it's considered the tallest in the world.

Empire StateWe kept walking, and dropped real quick by the Macy's, it's said to be the biggest department store in the world. In fact, it's really huge, it has about nine floors, and the building was all around the block!!! But it's not a big deal, just a normal department store.

After Macy's, we went up to the top of the Empire State building, the tallest building Vários táxis lá embaixo - Lots of cabs down therein New York (that's because there is no more World Trade Center). The day was a little cloudy, but we could still have a good view from the city. Actually, it's a wonderful view from up there! We can see the entire Manhattan island, and a little bit of the rest of New York, and New Jersey. And we can identify lots of famous spots around the city, like a few buildings and the Statue of Liberty.

Bela vista lá de cima - Nice view from up thereTo finish the day, we left the Empire State building and had a little Häagen-Dazs ice-cream (it's very good, by the way!). After that, we went back to the hostel and stayed at the louge, checking the pictures we had taken today.

Nossa marca no topo do Empire State - Our mark on the top of the Empire State
